About: The School of Art and Design, offers a tradition of excellence that goes back more than 100 years. Syracuse was the first university in the country to grant a bachelor of fine arts degree. Now the School of Art and Design offers 17 majors leading to a B.F.A. degree, three leading to a B.S. degree, and one leading to B.I.D. degree. Students in the B.F.A. or B.I.D. programs spend the first year in an art foundation program. Coursework in a major begins in the sophomore year and includes the opportunity to take academic electives in the University's other colleges. B.S. programs begin the major sequence in the first year. Excellent facilities include three main buildings dedicated to art and design. Students may be involved in interdisciplinary projects with students across the University. There are opportunities for study abroad.
